The focus for the week after spring vacation is Be Confident. The dictionary definition of to be confident is to be self assured or having a feeling or belief that you can do something well, have the ability to succeed or feeling certain about something. Synonyms may include to be positive, assertive, and poised. Being confident is a key to being successful in all areas school and life. There are many ways to show confidence in school. Students can share a presentation that they have practiced to feel good about doing it. Students can study and prepare for a test so that they feel confident about taking it. Students can think positively and sometimes even dressing nicely helps one feel empowered or confident. Students often look to their parents to see how to be confident and then can mirror them. Certainly, we can encourage our children to be confident. To this day my daughter remembers her grandfather telling her that she needs to be confident when she needed to try out for a play. Just that encouragement alone helped her to feel able to take the risk!
When we asked students students what it means to be confident they shared:
•To be proud
•Trust yourself and think you can do it
•Believe in yourself
•You feel good about yourself and you don't doubt what you can do
•Persevering through hard times no matter what
•You have a smile on your face- you are not down
Our Home Link for Be Confident will be sent home on Tuesday, April 3rd. We hope that you will find time to complete the Home Link and have a terrific conversation with your children of what it feels like to be confident.
