Great Week at Windsor!

5th Grade Sceince

Fifth Grade Science

Great citizenship!

Dance Club Auditions

Magic Storyteller

Mrs. Samartino helped out during the assembly!

Mr. Gember joining in the fun!

Smiling and enthusiastic Kindergarteners!
This week, we saw kindergartners happy to be working so hard, fifth graders teaching each other about energy created by light, great citizenship as seen by one peer helping a friend tie a shoe and our first Community Builders session.  The PTA assembly which included Magic, stories and ventriloquism by The Magic Storyteller was fun. He shared with students that it is important to speak up for each other, be good citizens, work hard and listen to the teachers.  He also told the children that they should not name call and laugh at others.  The students had a great time!  Thanks to the PTA for bringing the Magic Storyteller to Windsor! We also had a new club started at Windsor- Mr. Gember is leading a dance club that will accompany those in our fifth grade chorus. It was fun watching the students audition. Watch for other club information to be shared throughout the year!

Building Community

We are excited that Windsor's Community Builders program starts on Tuesday 9/23 at lunch! This program is designed to bring together 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students in our Communications and Foundations classrooms with peers across their grade levels. We have had a tremendous amount of interest from our 2nd-5th graders to join this group which will meet every other Tuesday during lunch and recess. Each student in our Communications and Foundations classes will be paired with one or two peers and the groups will work together on teacher-facilitated activities such as games, crafts, etc. and will also have a chance to eat lunch together. The first Community Builders group will run throughout the rest of the first trimester and then new groups will be formed for the second and third trimesters. Our Community Builders program will be facilitated by Mrs. Impastato (Social Worker), Mrs. Stodola (Intermediate Communications Teacher), Ms. Moran (Psychologist) and Ms. Hiltz (Assistant Principal/Student Services Coordinator). If you have questions about this great program, please feel free to contact Ms. Hiltz at vhiltz@sd25.org!

#WildcatWay

As many of you may already know, we try to share news and events via our Windsor Twitter account @WindsorWildcats. If you're a Twitter user, you can follow our account to see our latest updates. We also tweet using the hashtag "wildcatway" as we share examples of how our students and staff are living up to our Wildcat Way expectations (see photo below) which are posted around the school and referred to often.

The Wildcat Way was created last year by students and one of our school goals this year is to continue to define these ideas and help students understand what it looks like to be nice, honest, respectful, etc. across different environments and situations in school. Please feel free to have conversations with your students about their understanding of these terms and expectations. We also love to hear examples about how you see students honoring the Wildcat Way!

It was a Busy Week for a Four Day Week!

Thanks to all of you who participated in our Family Information Night on Wednesday evening. We all enjoyed meeting/seeing you and sharing our passion for teaching and learning with you! Please remember that we love to get feedback from our parents.
If you were unable to attend the Parent Night, feel free to contact the teacher to find out what you may need to know and they will be happy to share the information with you. Many teachers will be sending home information via their blogs or in home folders.

Today's garden tasting was fantastically fun!  The students were so excited to taste the salsa harvested in our garden. Thanks to Chef Tom for joining us for the fourth year.
OUR GARDEN VEGGIES!

Salsa and Chips for Students!

Chef Tom getting ready to prepare a salad!

Delighted students!  They LOVED the Salsa!

Back to School Social: So sorry that the storm caused our power to go off, thus causing our terrific event to have to be cancelled. Many thanks to our PTA pa
rent volunteers who were able to follow through to prepare the Firehouse Subs/cookie/water and chips and be able to have our parents pick them up! When there is no power, it is great to know Windsor is at your service!  While we didn't have the social, it was still quite fun putting it all together and seeing all the parents picking up dinner!

MONDAY: Monday is the start of our assessment season. Students will begin to take AIMSweb assessments and MAP tests. In addition, students in grades K-3 will participate in Fountas and Pinnell assessment to determine where they are as readers.  More information regarding all of these assessments will be in this blog on Monday!
